On March 30th, the Purdue Student Chapter of SIAM will be hosting the first inter-disciplinary applied and industrial mathematics student conference here at Purdue. This conference will highlight the breadth of computational and applied mathematics research that is being done across the different departments. It will allow students to see how the modeling and numerical techniques that they use are being applied in other disciplines.
The conference is currently accepting abstracts/proposals of talks and posters from students working in any discipline using applied or industrial mathematics to advance their field. Each of the applicants for talks and poster presentations need to submit a title and abstract through this form by March 13th, 2009*. The decision solely relies on the judgment of the Review Committee. We aim to include as many talks as possible. The invited participants will be contacted by email by March 16th, 2009*.
The talks will each be 25 minutes in length, please remember to leave time for questions.
Attendance and proposals is open to both graduate research, as well as undergraduate research. We also welcome students at our neighboring schools to attend and participate.
The conference will open with a talk from the Purdue Vice President of Research, Richard Buckius. Three tracks of simultaneous student research talks along with a poster session will then comprise the core of the conference. The event will then close with a talk from Purdue’s Director of the Computing Research Institute, Alex Pothen.
Both attendance registration and proposal submission must submit a conference registration.
